Rohima Miah MD is a fierce mental health advocate and dedicated Psychiatrist specializing in addiction medicine and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy. For the past seven years, she has been partnered with Alpha Psychiatric Associates, offering a compassionate and committed approach to managing mental health. As a practitioner, she is also a social justice advocate, a supervisor for nurse practitioners, and a provider of Suboxone for Opioid Addiction.

A healthcare professional who is devoted to finding the best solution for her patients, Rohima Miah MD believes that the most effective approach to healthcare is a holistic approach – one that looks at the whole person and all of the moving parts, rather than isolating problems and trying to identify them in a vacuum. While medications are undoubtedly important in treatment, so are family relationships, community involvement, and social engagement. In all aspects of healthcare, especially when treating addiction, it’s crucial to look at the whole picture to determine the best course of treatment and recovery. Her work has also taken her behind bars, working with inmates at the Wake County North Carolina Sheriff’s Department, offering mental health services.

ROHIMA MIAH’S PROFESSIONAL CAREER

Rohima Miah MD is a member of the American Psychiatric Association. Her skill set includes mental health, psychotherapy, family therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, clinical research, clinical supervision, and group therapy, and she is also an active member of the North Carolina Medicare for All Coalition. The organization operates with the belief that healthcare is a human right and a mission of working together to pass comprehensive, single-payer Medicare for all that is improved for all citizens by helping mobilize residents of North Carolina to speak to their representatives about ensuring that all communities have equitable access to healthcare. She admires the work being done by the Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP).

Rohima Miah MD decided at 27 that she wanted to pursue a career in medicine, whether or not she chose to work towards her doctorate. She enrolled at the University of Michigan, where, in 1992, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical and Biological Anthropology. From there, she chose to pursue her doctorate and enrolled at The Ohio State University. After realizing her lifelong passion for helping people actualize change in their own lives – she chose Psychology as her concentration. Rohima completed her Doctorate degree in 1996, earning her Doctor of Medicine degree.
